The World of Water

The turquoise waters around the Turks and Caicos Islands offers cool and thrilling watersports adventure all year round. For the first time in it’s history, the islands attracted more than 1 million tourists in a year, 2011, and the world of water had some part to play in luring them here. On the waters edge, you can get a tan, watch your children build sandcastles, read a book or go swimming. For the more adventurous, the list is endless and includes parasailing, skiing, wakeboarding, kiteboarding and snorkeling. Here are some highly recommended watersports activities you can try during your Turks and Caicos getaway:

Parasailing

In this activity, one or two persons are towed behind a boat while attached to a specially designed canopy wing that reminds one of a parachute, known as a parasail wing. The boat then drives off, carrying the parachute and person(s) into the air. The parascender has little or no control over the parachute, but who cares, the views afforded are priceless.

Waterskiing

With the waterskis strapped on and crouching down in the water, the boat accelerates with skier in tow. Nothing is left in the wake except great memories as you zoom through the water with the tropical breeze whistling through your hair.

Wakeboarding

Like waterskiing, wakeboarding is riding the surface of a body of water, except it’s like a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques. What a thrill on water!

Banana Boat Ride

Also known as a water sled and often referred to simply as a banana, this inflatable recreational boat is towed behind a powered boat. It usually accommodates three to ten riders sitting in tandem straddling the banana. Riding in a banana boat is considered to be a safer activity than water-skiing or other towed-water sports, and is similar to tubing.
